Shellview Sod Farms cultivates and delivers Kentucky Blue and Fescue sod to sites both small and large. We work with home owners, landscapers, developers, contractors and golf courses primarily. The results are always the same: customer satisfaction and a gorgeous, lush, durable lawn.
Kentucky Blue and Fescue are cool season grasses that have adapted
well for life in Canada. Both have similar characteristics, most notable being shade tolerant, staying green all
year and possessing a very good resistance to drought and winter kill.
Small Roll Sod is cut in rolls 16 inches wide by 81 inches long. Each small roll equals 1 square yard, 9 square feet or 1.196 square metres. Small roll sod is shipped on pallets.
Big Roll Sod
Big roll is the same concept as the commonly used small roll sod rolls except the rolls are 4 feet wide by 100 feet long.
Big roll is a must when dealing with large developments
such as golf courses, parks, soccer pitches, ball diamonds and large residential and
commercial areas. Big roll is a fast and extremely efficient answer to covering
large areas with a fraction of the crew that would normally
be needed. Shellview Sod Farms harvests only the highest quality sod, and with the
option of big roll, no job is too big to be done quickly, beautifully and with huge
labor reductions. Rental of big roll installers for skid steers, forklifts and 3 point hitch
units are available as well. For more big roll information please contact Shellview Sod Farms.
Services
Hydroseeding
We are pleased to offer hydroseeding to our customers. Hydroseeding is perfect for jobs such as overpass and roadside construction, large acreages, commercial development as well as golf courses, parks and reclamation projects.
What is it? Hydroseeding or hydromultching is a seed planting process that has been
used for everything from highways to large acreage lawns. The process is fast, simple,
economical, and efficient. The hydroseeding process starts by mixing cellulose wood
fiber mulch, natural takifiers, seed, fertilizer and water in a tank to be mixed and pumped
by machine. Once the mixture is fully blended it is then spayed on the ground by hose or
cannon. The sprayed blanket can reach difficult terrains such as slopes and creek
crossings. When the slurry dries, it creates a crust over the ground, protecting the area
from erosion. The crust prevents the seed to from being washed away in rain as well as
providing the seed a perfectly protected bed to germinate. The mixture of the mulch
ensures fast and even germination, usually about 3 times faster coverage than normal
seeding without the washouts from rain and run-off. As well the seed is held in place by
the mulch to ensure an even coverage of growth usually within the first 2-3 weeks of
seeding.
What can you Hydroseed? Just about any kind of seed and / or multiple varieties of
seed can be seeded, from grasses to forest mixes and verything in between.
Most common mixes are lawn, acreage, road side and park mixes, as well as reclamation
and forage blends are available.
When? As soon as the ground has reached a temperature in which will allow the seed to
germinate. Ground temperature must be a constant of 10 degrees Celsius or higher. The
best hydroseeding time in the prairie provinces and northern regions is usually from mid
May until late September or early October.
Where? From large acreages to reclamation and steep grades hydroseeding can cover
any job. With the use of takifiers in our mulch we can cover and hold on virtually any
grade. As well the mulch seed mix can be pumped by hose up to 500 ft. or broadcast by high pressure cannon up to 200 ft. for hard to reach places.
Why? It is cost effective and works great! Seed can be applied evenly mixed with
fertilizers and mulch that keep it moist and firmly in place. This allows the seed to germinate quickly, usually complete coverage in 2-3 weeks. While the seed is
germinating, the mulch, which contains natural takifiers, forms a mat which stops water
runs and wind erosion. Hydroseeding is perfect for jobs such as overpass and roadside
construction, large acreages and commercial development as well as golf course, parks
and reclamation projects.
In addition to our sod services and hydroseeding, we're also happy to provide you with lawn related information. Give us a call and we’ll answer the questions you have regarding landscape problems, disease and insect control, and water and fertilizer problems and application.
